The Requisites Before And During The Salat

Every Muslim realizes and accepts the importance of Salat in Islam. It is the pillar of faith, which is performed on daily basis, and this frequent performance of it has made it one of the representative factors of Islam. Muslims all over the world are represented and differentiated from people of other religion on the bases of their offering regular Salat.

Like every obligation, Salat also has certain requisites. For the Salat to be accepted it is important that these requisites be met, otherwise the Salat stays invalid and void, furthermore the missing any of the requisites requires a person offering the Salat again in the proper manner. The lines below discuss the major requisites that need to be fulfilled before and during the Salat.
Before:
The following requests are to be fulfilled before Salat:
1. Salat Timing:
The first condition that needs to be fulfilled pertaining to offering Salat is offering it at the right time. Salat timing are prescribed for every Salat, therefore, every prayer is to be offered on its given time. Although a Muslim can offer Qaza Salat if he or she has somehow not been able to offer the Salat on time, however, the reward of it is not the same as the one offered at the respective time.
2. Cleanliness:
Secondly, the body needs to be clean of all the impurities before standing in the prayer. In this regard, if Ghusl is applicable then a person must perform it otherwise ablution suffices the purpose of purifying one’s body before prayer.
3. Clean Attire:
Like the body, the clothing of a person also needs to be clean before offering the prayer. A Muslim must make sure that the clothes he or she is wearing in the prayer are void of any impurities.
4. Place of Salat:
Like body and the clothes, the place on which a person is offering Salat also needs to be clean. In this regard, Muslims usually utilize prayer mat which is specific for Salat offering.
5. Satr:
The Satr is the requisite area of the body that needs to be covered before standing in prayer. For men it starts from the naval region till the area down the knees, while for women it is from the ankles to the writs of the hands.
Direction:
Finding Qibla direction is another requisite that needs to be fulfilled before offering Salat. The direction is the House of Allah and every Muslim regardless of wherever he or she might be in the world, they have to turn towards the direction of Kabah for offering prayer.
During Salat:
The following requisites are to be fulfilled during the prayer:
1. Takbeer Tahrima:
The Salat needs to begin with Takbeer Tahrima where the Muslim takes the hands to the years and proclaims ‘Allahu Akbar’. This marks the initiation of the prayer hence, it is a major requisite of offering prayer.
2. Qiyam:
In every Rakat of the prayer there is Qiyam in which all the recitation of the Holy Quran takes place. If Qiyam is missed in any prayer it means that the Salat is void.
3. Qirat:
Qirat is the recitation of some part of the Quran that takes place in every Rakat. The Qirat needs to be performed in the first two Rakats of Fard prayer and it needs to be done in all the other |Rakats of all the other forms of prayer.
4. Ruku and Sujood:
In every Rakat there needs to be Ruku and two Sujood. Both of these elements are required for the Rakat to be rightful and needs to be fulfilled in a prayer.
5. Qa’adah:
In the last Rakat of every prayer there needs to be Qa’dah in which a Muslim recites the Tashud, Durood and the supplication.
6. Salam:
After Qa’adah there is the Salam to conclude the prayer. The Salam first needs to be offered by turning the face towards the right side followed by the turning of face towards the left side.

In a nutshell, for the prayer to be valid it is imperative that the requisites before and during the Salah be fulfilled in the rightful manner.
