The Imperativeness Of Learning Tajweed For Quran Recitation

Quran is the Divine word, which has bestowed upon humans for their guidance. Muslims are believers in this text and try to follow it to the very word. They try to understand its meanings, find out the instructions that are stated explicitly and also the knowledge that is hidden in words as well. Thus, the Quran does not have a single use; rather a Muslim can utilize it for multiple purposes.

No matter whatever objective a Muslim associates with reading or Recitation of Quran , one thing is to be made sure and that is the recitation of Quran with Tajweed. There is a proper way of reciting Quran and that is with Tajweed, hence a Muslim needs to ensure that the Quran is being recited in the proper manner. The lines below discuss the importance of when it comes to recitation of Quran.

In the Quran, Allah says:

“…..And recite the Quran with measured recitation.” (73:4)

Thus, when it comes to Recitation of the Quran, there commendation from Allah is to recite it with measured recitation. Now the question to ask is that what is a measured recitation and why is it important to recite Quran in such a way of recitation? The answer to this question is that measured recitation is actually the Tajweed with which the Quran needs to be recited and the importance of it is discussed below.

Tajweed refers to the rightful pronunciation of the alphabets of the Quran in order to produce the right recitation. The proper pronunciation of words is important in the following regards:

  • Firstly, Quran is the word of God, therefore, it is quite naturally a requisite that those who recite it should recite it by beautifying it. It is not some other common book that could be given a casual reading, rather, it is the word of the Most High, therefore, by learning the rules of recitation one could recite it in the best possible way.

  • The second reason why a Muslim should consider reciting Quran with proper recitation is the fact that Arabic is a very sensitive language and a slight mispronunciation of the alphabets can lead to the whole meaning of the word changing and when the meaning of the word changes, the probability of the whole ayah changing the meaning also increases. Thus, although a person would not be reciting Quran with such an intention, however, unintentionally he or she be committing grave changes in the meanings. Therefore, a Muslim should focus on learning the proper way of recitation of Quran to ensure that the words come with the same meanings and no change in meanings takes place because of improper pronunciation.

  • The third reason for the recitation of Quran with proper Tajweed is the fact that the beautification of the verses leads to them having a greater and more profound effect on the heart and the soul of a Muslim. Thus, those who recite Quran for the purpose of purifying the soul and to elevate it, they should also learn the rules of Tajweed to recite it. This can surely come in handy when on respective Prayer Timing a Muslim stand for prayer in which he or she recites Quran.

In a nutshell, Tajweed is imperative to learning and recitation of Quran. The better a person is in Tajweed, the better he or she will be able to understand and recite Quran.
